Picnic Heist
Nov 3, 2026 · Draw a scent trail across a picnic blanket, pick the crew, and watch 400 ants rob the picnic past the hand, the soda, the cooler and the dog.
Picnic Heist is a heist where the crew is four hundred ants. You drag one scent trail from the anthill across a gingham blanket to the food, pick two specialists, press GO, and then you can only watch. Mostly.
The human is the guard. Their gaze drifts between spots on the blanket, and wherever it sees a crowd, a hand winds up and comes down. You get two Scatter! calls a run: hit it as the hand winds up and the column breaks apart, so the slap lands on nothing. The crew changes the plan. Soldiers hold one spot on the trail and take three slaps for everyone else, a beetle carries the sandwich home whole (slowly), and a scout shows where the human will look and where the soda will spill. A spill washes the scent away, and the ants zigzag across the gap until they find the trail again.
There are seven jobs. Each adds one thing: the gaze, the soldiers, the soda, the sandwich, then a cooler someone drags across the blanket every few seconds, and finally the dog, on a lead, which charges the biggest crowd it can reach. Every job has stars against the house, a bot that tries about forty routes and sets par. After that there's the daily picnic, the same blanket for everyone, with the cooler on weekends and the dog on Wednesdays, and a streak if you keep coming back.
Every run is deterministic, so a run is only the trail, the crew and the moments you called Scatter!. That fits in a replay link: send it and your friend watches your exact heist, then can race it, with your column running beside theirs as faint cyan ants. The 🎬 Clip button records a run as a short video to save or share.
The idea came out of the studio's own ant brainstorm. It's drawn with three.js, shot as a tilt-shift diorama at golden hour (leaf shadows from a tree overhead, a soft-focus lawn), and every sound is synthesized. The promo above was rendered from the real game, playing scripted runs.
